Pelton Turbine - for high head - 300 watt with extra nozzles

Description

This is a new, small pelton turbine that will generate up to 300 watts of power. The unit is designed to generate 240 volts ac and 60 hz. The turbine contains a load controller and dump load that will shed extra or unused power if the voltage exceeds 240 VAC. It also prevents overspeeding of the turbine if there is no electric load. If water pressure is in excess of the stated operating values, the unit can be made to overspeed.
The units can be used for 240 VAC and 300 watts directly. It can also be used to charge batteries with a battery charger, or be connected to an inverter for grid connection. Do not put too heavy an electrical load on the generator that would exceed 300 watts. There are a total of 4 nozzles that are readily changed to adapt the turbine to the available head and flow conditions.
This could be an ideal unit for classroom demonstration of hydro electricity principles using tap water.
The Pelton style turbine is made for high head, low flow applications. The turbine requires pressures between
55 psi to 100 psi of water pressure, this relates to 40 to 70 meters of head. The nozzles can be changed to adapt to available water and pressure conditions. Rated flow is .0008 to .0015 cubic meters per second (12 to 20 gallons per minute).
Pelton turbines require high head and low water flow.

If you are handy or like to experiment.......This turbine could be modified from the single nozzle unit it is, to be a 2 or 4 nozzle turbine. This would allow lower head and more water flow to be used. The turbine housing is a heavy cast metal.
