Large Live Edge BURL MAPLE Slab Slice Sanded & Dried 54" x 40"

Description

Live Edge BURL Maple Slab Slice - Sanded & Dry 54" x 40" - Ready for Stain or Finish.  This was cut from the base of a 150+ year old maple tree in downtown Willoughby, Ohio from the front yard of a home build in the 1860s. The slab is well-dried (air dried) for several years. This slab was professionally sanded by an Amish wood worker in Geauga County, Ohio.  It is about 3 inches thick. The shape is "oval-ish" but varies, and follows the natural curves of the tree.  There is one spot at the tip of one of the "humps" where there is a small amount of hardened sap. We expect  that it can be sanded or otherwise removed prior to final finishing. The "live edge" bark goes around most of the slab, but you can see in the first photo that part of the one side does not have bark. The slab has been reinforced underneath by 2 x 4's (put there by the Amish wood worker) after sanding and while it was naturally air drying.
We have left those 2 x 4's attached until the slab was to be used for a table top or whatever purpose. You
can see some of "dry gaps" in only parts of the slab, and the majority remains very tight grained after drying.  Given its large shape and weight, we are listing this for local pick up only. Please contact us regarding payment and pick up.
