Antique Copper Clad Coal Log Hod Box Vintage Fireside Fireplace French Motif.
This old Hod box would be a wonderful addition adding some rustic and formal flair to your fireplace.
Popular over the last few centuries, Hod boxes were used to store coal or wood near the fireplace or stove.
Various styles developed including this one that is copper clad and embossed with scenes of French life in the 16th century.
Other features include casters on the underside which still function well and a chain to keep the lid from falling and damaging a nearby wall or other item.
The copper cladding has developed a very nice patina over the years.
There are some dents and missing nails.  (see images)
Hinges, casters and limiting chain are all intact and function well.
It appears to be a one-off handmade design or copied from one that was similar.
It's from a farmhouse in rural Michigan.
