    Vehicle Details
1972 Porsche 914. I bought this rust free 914 in PHX and drove it home to OK, in 1999. I drove it for a couple of years but on a trip back from MS it dropped a valve...IN DALLAS! Had it hauled home. In the meantime I had a '76 that I rebuilt and drove 40K miles, then a '70 that I converted to a 2.0 six. When I got this car it had had a respray to the outer body only, including black bumpers and sail trim. I cleaned the trunks and dropped the engine for a someday rebuild, resprayed the trunks and engine bay and returned the bumpers to yellow. The sail trim should be yellow too but I left them black. The body is straight and rust free including the hell hole. The R front fender has a small area of old bondo outside of the turn signal lens. There is a scratch on the hood about 3" long and two scratches on the left fender. The pan is sound, no rust or repairs. I added steel fuel lines thru the tunnel. The interior is original except for new carpets that I added about 10+ years ago. I did not reinstall the interior firewall insulation but the pad is in good condition as is the engine bay firewall pad. Both are ready to be re-installed if desired. The seats are as I found them except that I replaced one of the adjuster handles. The dash is in good shape with a dash cap that can be reglued. The PO kept the radio but had installed new speakers and an electric antenna. I added an electric windshield washer, a pushbutton starter switch, and replaced the fuel gauge/idiot light with a 914-S gauge that I had. Its cool. The car had about 46K miles on the odometer when I bought it. I wondered if that was original judging from the interior, the lack of rust, and the original carpet and heat insulation in the rear trunk. But I had no documentation. In any case, the engine was kaput till I got to it last summer. I had a side shifter tansmission rebuilt in OKC (Dumont Porsche). The engine case had a crack so I used a case that Mike Dumont had (W0085805). The crank only needed polishing. I used a Raby 9590 cam kit, and AA Biral cylinders and flat top pistons. to make it a 1911cc. The heads were new manufacture from Len Hoffman (HAM Inc.) and I had 2.0L intake tubes to match as well as throttle body, air cleaner and a 2.0L computer and wiring harness. Its nice to have a shelf full of spares. I bought a new thermostat from Aircooled.net. I had SS headers on the shelf so I used them. The Pedrini wheels are in good shape and the hub covers are original (and not beat up!) The front tires were wearing and I found one tie rod end was bad. I replaced both and had an alignment. They noted the inside ends were marginal. The engine first started in Sept, last year. I didn't drive it much thru the winter as I still had the '69 912 that I was working on. It has about 2000 miles on the new engine and I just did the 2nd oil change, Valvoline racing oil 20-50. I put 40K miles on the '76 that I rebuilt years ago, but its getting kinda tough lying on my back on the concrete so I'm downsizing. Somebody needs to enjoy this car. Pedrini's, painted bumpers and naked sails...it doesn't get any better than that. Low reserve, good luck.
